Exeter legend of the jazz scene" Harry Dowell is a saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer. Steeped in the jazz tradition, Harry is heavily influenced by post-bop and contemporary jazz, including artists such as John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Pat Metheny and Kurt Rosenwinkel. His improvisational style balances thoughtful melodic creation with ambitious spontaneity. Harry has pursued a career in music and has played across the country, recently coming off a successful tour with Lack of Afro. He has performed in numerous venues in the southwest, such as the Exeter Phoenix, Bristol Beacon, and Blackmore Gardens during the Sidmouth Jazz Festival.
Tom Ball plays piano in groups with Neil Maya, Annika Skoogh, Marvin Muoneke and organ with Jesse Molins and Neil Burns. He leads and writes for his own “Liquid Spirit” trio. He runs gigs in and around Torquay under the Liquid Spirit banner. He has accompanied visiting artists including Jim Mullen, Gareth Lockrane, Nigel Price and Andy Panayi. Influences include Jason Rebello and Brad Mehldau.
Kevin Sanders has been a professional bassist for over thirty years. In that time, as well as numerous BBC radio and television sessions, he's played well over 5000 live performances, appearing all over the world from Brussels to Broadway. He has gigged and recorded with some of the greatest musicians and soloists around, from the finest of the British jazz scene, working with the likes of singer Clare Teal and legendary saxophonist Pete King, to playing and recording with musicians as diverse as the Levellers, award-winning Korean classical pianist Ingrid Wu and American legends the Osmonds.
Josh Rose is a versatile and musical drummer with deep groove and dynamic energy. He's currently enjoying playing with big and small bands alike on the south west jazz scene.
Together, The Harry Dowell Quartet will be performing a concert of works by John Coltrane, including compositions and key jazz standards that he recorded across his illustrious career. You can expect hard bop and cool jazz from his early recordings, as well as ventures into his modal and Love Supreme eras.
